On Monday, September 19, the City Executive Committee will be considering recommendations from the City Manager, as part of the Core Service Review, to eliminate CPIP grants to almost 250 currently-funded programs. These include all grants under $10,000, and any grant that represents less than 5% of a program’s overall budget.
The C2C analysis of this recommendation shows that the following organizations would lose funding under this proposal (please note there are two lists at the end of this message – representing project and program). If you find your organization on either of these lists, you may want to check the full list of agencies facing cuts on the Commitment to Community Website here. There is also a summary of the broad range of cuts and restructuring that is being recommended in the City Managers report (everything from childcare to snow removal to zoos) on the C2C website here. For of overview of how the proposed changes will affect the entire CPIP envelope of funding click here.
If you find that your organization, or an organization that you are concerned about, is on the list, or if you want to show your support for community organizations generally, we ask you to:
- Spread the word and encourage residents to contact their local Councillors before Sept 23. Councillors will vote to support or oppose these cuts at the September 26 Council meeting. If you work with community members and have a way to alert them to these cuts (e.g. via e-mail lists or community meetings) please get the word out now and encourage everyone to e-mail or call their local councillors before Friday September 23 to tell them how they feel about the proposed cuts. This action, if taken by enough people, is likely to have a significant impact on saving programs and service that residents care about. To assist people to find out who their local councillor is (or to sort your e-mail lists by ward), see the city’s website at http://app.toronto.ca/wards/jsp/wards.jsp
- Register in advance to depute to Executive Committee on September 19, 2011, beginning at 9:30 am at City Hall about the value of programs delivered through CPIP’s grants and the impact cuts would have on your community. Prepare to speak for 3-5 minutes on the value of the programs you have benefited from and tell your story to city councillors.
